We are part of the solution

Our approach to ESG

ESG topics are core premises for our investment and business decisions. We approach ESG considerations along two pillars:

  • Our own performance as a company and employer
  • Our role as an active owner

We seek to ensure that our portfolio companies implement processes and procedures for sustainable development in a way that ensures long-term value creation for our shareholders. Our ambition is that our portfolio companies represent the benchmark for profitable, safe, and sustainable operations.

We put our focus where we can make the biggest difference

8: Decent work and economic growth

13: Climate action

14: Life below water

17: Partnerships for the goals

Aker recognizes and respects the UN’s 17 goals for sustainable development. We have identified four sustainability goals that we positively impact. Aker makes a self-assessment to identify the areas where we can have the greatest positive impact based on market analysis by the World Benchmarking Alliance.

Our reporting

Aker's reporting and ESG related issues will from 2020 be based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards. The report will be prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards Core Option. As requested by the GRI, Aker conducts a materiality analysis to identify the most material sustainability topics, also taking into account the views of our most important stakeholders. The materiality analysis is approved by the Management and Board of Directors. The report also follows TCFD reporting framework, where Aker especially considers the climate-related risks and opportunities of the business. Aker uses a third party for independent assurance of our sustainability reporting routines, as well as for the GHG emissions accounts. We also disclose annual ESG performance data and targets in the annual CDP report, available here: Aker ASA CDP Score Report 2020.
