Through its power as shareholder and its representation on companies’ Boards of Directors, an industrial investment company like Aker ASA has the opportunity to exercise influence on the individual companies and their priorities. We see it as our responsibility to help the companies become positive contributors in the communities in which they operate and in society at large. We believe that companies that achieve this are the companies that succeed.
Our attitudes and our business are built on the foundation of the tripartite cooperation. In many people’s opinion, the modern corporate democracy in Norway started here in Aker, in the shipyard in the city centre of Oslo, where Aker Brygge is today. Employees have a central and natural right to representation in Aker ASA’s governing bodies, and in those of the individual companies in which we have ownership interests.
Businesses are most likely to succeed when they deliver to the customers’ expectations, at the same time as they find the right balance between the needs of the community, the interests of the employees and the financial world’s expectations of profit.
